I’m sorry to hear about your experience but I have to confirm that I’ve seen this type of behavior at each place I’ve worked but especially law firms. How many of us have seen this scenario: you are waiting for an elevator chatting with one of the attorneys and as soon as another attorney comes along, especially a partner, you cease to exist. You are not brought into the conversation (because being a lowly support staff person you are just too stupid to possible understand the conversation) and basically ignored.

The attorneys I miss the most are the ones who went out of their way to engage me in what was going on and didn’t treat me like some hand towel. No one – not Williams Lee staff, not secretaries, etc. – should ever feel “less than” or be made to feel that way by someone with whom they work.

As a big believer in Karma I do think some of this nastiness has come home to roost on attorney doorsteps. I only wish it upon those who could learn the lessons of how to treat staff. Having karma visit the other dolts who mistreat staff is simply wasted.
