Job Posting: Senior SQL DBA – Washington DC

We just received this posting for a Senior SQL Database Admin position at a DC law firm:

My client is a leading DC Law Firm, who is looking for an experienced SQL DBA to bring onto their team. This individual will be responsible for the design, implementation, operation and maintenance of all aspects of the firm-wide database infrastructure including, but not limited to design, standardization, security, replication and backup/recovery strategy under the direction of the Manager Systems Engineering.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Provides full design, planning, configuration, documentation, deployment and top-level support ownership of the following infrastructure technologies. SQL Server databases in support of purchased or developed applications including:

·         Technical direction for database design, maintenance and administration.

·         Standards, procedures and conventions for database use.

·         Database security including protection from accidental or intentional loss or damage.

·         Determining file organization, indexing methods, shared-server leverage and security procedures.

·         Database backup and recovery solutions.

·         Sizing and Tuning– ensuring that the proper hardware resources are acquired before implementation of any system and continue to be used appropriately during an applications life cycle.

·         Working with the Systems Engineering Manager develops documented firm standards for the above areas of technology and ensures that adherence to those standards is monitored and followed by all members of the department. 

·          Works closely with the application teams working on products such as Elite, Introspect, Interaction, Interwoven, and PeopleSoft to ensure that the database elements of these applications are applied consistently throughout the firm.

·         Assists in maintaining a testing environment for development.

·         Maintains awareness of technology developments and makes recommendations to Systems Engineering Manager. 

·          Participates in cross-functional team projects to implement new or updated technology.

·         Assists with resolution of escalated incidents and participates in problem management activities.

·         Cross-trains other IT staff in the use or maintenance of technology.

Experience Required:

Working knowledge of Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL), Microsoft Operations Framework, ISO 9000 or similar process discipline preferred.

5-7 years experience as senior DBA at an organization of similar size and complexity with similar responsibilities.

MS Certified DBA (MS SQL 2000) or MS Certified Information Technology Specialist (SQL 2005) preferred.
