Job Title: Project Assistant

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Department: IP Reports To: Assigned Attorney(s), and Paralegals

Schedule: 9:00 – 5:30 Monday – Friday Overtime as required

General Summary:  Project Assistants are Practice Group staff. Under general supervision of assigned attorneys and paralegals and following prescribed Group, Office and Firm procedures, Project Assistants are assigned to work primarily on specific cases or transactions. Project Assistants provide general assistance to a project team of attorneys and paralegals, including performance of the tasks described below. Above all, Project Assistants must fulfill the needs of the Office in a manner which is consistent with the Firm’s visions and values.


(Duties are performed throughout every work day, as necessary):

  • Assist in conducting statutory, regulatory or factual research with respect to client matters.
  • Assist in reviews of client records and files.
  • Assist with organization of client materials and attorney work product, including coding documents and the use of databases, imaging systems and other technology.
  • Arrange filings, mailings and service list deliveries with appropriate courts, government agencies and other parties.
  • Perform general case file maintenance.


  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong analytical, research and communication skills.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Familiarity with computer-based word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, set priorities and see projects through to completion.
  • Ability to work with a wide range of people in a team setting.
  • Proficiency on office equipment used on a regular basis, including computers, printers, copy machines, facsimile machines, transcription equipment and telephones.
  • Strong service orientation.


  • See, hear and speak.
  • Ability to lift (i.e., office files, documents, binders).
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time.
  • Duties are performed using repetitive finger, hand and arm movements.
  • Duties require fine manipulation (typing).
  • Duties require simple grasping (files, documents, telephone, writing instruments).
  • Duties may require combinations of the above movements.
